In order to receive this certification, the AFW team had to lay the ground work for a manufacturing road map; implement a business plan that met the auditing standards set forth by the ISO Standard. To quote the team leader "We outlined a plan and thoroughly went through each step of our process to ensure the corrective and preventative measures were in place to meet this goal.It took years of preparation and implementation, but it is worth the effort."

Part of the management plan was to ensure the process: design and engineering of a custom component; acquisition of quality materials; craftsmanship of a friction weld; implementation of quality control standards; inspection of the pieces; and inventory control. Joel and his team's drive is to build a level of confidence to attract new business in the industries that AFW serves:

In 1986, American Friction Welding began providing friction welding for the printing and computer industries. AFW operates a 50,000 square foot, climate-controlled facility that is easily accessible to major interstates ensuring maximum logistics efficiency. An onsite warehouse and complete KanBan program completes the cycle to meet customers' needs and standards.
