Quality Control

WE GO TO EXTREMES TO MEET CUSTOMER SPECS!

One of the products we manufacture requires tight tolerances for concentricity, length, perpendicularity, and ovality. To ensure consistent alignment of all four tolerances, American Friction Welding designed a quality-testing gauge to measure concentricity, perpendicularity, length, and ovality of each part. With one 360-degree rotational pass, the gauge probes and evaluates these four parameters, reporting a pass or fail for each parameter.

The friction welding machine operator programs the gauge with each of the tolerance values from the customer's specs. Then, the operator places the part on the Custom Quality Gauge.

With one 360-degree rotation, the gauge very quickly and accurately measures and evaluates all four tolerances. The results are used in the pass/fail test to ensure quality.
Quality Gauge accurately measures the part for comparison to customer's required specs.
This Custom Quality Gauge can collect and forward data for further Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis.
Data can be transmitted to a laptop or PC for further SPC analysis.

CONCENTRICITY: A three-dimensional geometric tolerance that controls how much the median points of multiple diameters may deviate from the specified datum axis.

PERPENDICULARITY: A three-dimensional geometric tolerance that controls how much a surface, axis, or plane can deviate from a 90 degree angle.

OVALITY: A cylindrical measurement tool that traverses the circumference of the cylindrical element to measure and record the dynamic distortion between circular and oval.
