1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shift Machine Operators

American Friction Welding is a unique welding job shop that specializes in friction welding or inertia welding.  We are one of only a handful of North American companies that provides friction welding services. Our equipment includes over 14 friction welding machines, ranging from 4-ton to 250-tons. AFW has a diverse customer base that is comprised of companies from the construction, agricultural, pump, and automotive industries.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for eager to learn individuals to join our 1st and 3rd shift teams.  American Friction Welding will provide the training needed to start your career.

Qualified applicants will:

  • Be able to read a tape measure
  • Have the willingness to learn how to use various inspection equipment
  • Be able to convert fractions of an inch into decimals of an inch
  • Have good basic math skills
  • Be able to lift up to 30lbs on a regular basis.
  • Understand the importance of a good attendance record.

Our 1st shift is from 7:00am-3:30pm. 2nd shift is 3pm-11:30pm that includes a $1 shift premium.  3rd shift is 11pm-7:30am that includes a $1 shift premium.

Quality Engineer

AFW has a diverse customer base that is comprised of companies from the construction, agricultural, pump, and automotive industries.

This opportunity becomes available with due to an upcoming retirement in a couple years.  Upcoming and recent graduates are encouraged to apply as we are looking for someone to grow into the position Qualified candidates will either have an Associate’s Degree in Quality or a 4 year Degree in Quality Engineering with a solid knowledge of Statistical Process Controls

The Quality Engineer will:

  • Utilize statistical tools for problem solving, continuous improvement and scrap reduction and help in the training of statistical tools throughout the shop.
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the ISO 9001 quality management system.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data regarding quality process/product capabilities, problems & trends, and quality related design & development topics.
  • Serve as Quality representative in new product launches.
  • Assist in the Corrective Action Process. Promote effective resolution to quality problems.
  • Assist in the Internal Audit Process. Perform audit activities, to include, audit execution and evaluation and post-audit follow-up and recommendations.
  • Customer Liaison as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

  • A full understanding of SPC and the benefit of it in Manufacturing.
  • Formal training in SPC and Quality Engineering or Quality Systems.
  • An intense desire to understand why procedures fail and to prevent such failures.
  • Understanding of the ISO 9001, TS16949, and/or AS quality management systems.
  • Experience in MS Excel and Word
  • Professionalism and integrity to communicate and work with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Results oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.

Knowledgeable with hands on experience in using quality measurement tools as well as statistical tools.
